Aggregates, such as gravel and particularly sand, need to be washed to recover fine material and eliminate sludge that remains attached to their surface due to their applications. Typically, the water used for sand washing can be recycled through the use of settling ponds where heavier particles settle at the bottom to be recovered and stored.
